Default Send To Mail Recipient

Hello everyone,

Two functions have suddenly stopped working. They are the "Right Click"
"Send To" "Mail Recipient" function and the ""Send Link By Email" function
in Internet Explorer 9

When trying to use either of them, either noting happens at all, or the
Windows Live Mail 2011 splash opens for a second or two and then disappears.

I have looked around and tried all the various ways of making sure Windows
Live Mail is the default mail client etc. but I think that must be ok
because the "Send Link" function in Firefox works properly, opening a
Windows Live Mail window.

Any ideas?

Peter

Sorry - I meant to say IE8 - I don't have IE9 installed and have never tried
it because it's still in beta.

Hi, Peter,

Here is one way to fix your problem but there may be others...

In IE 8, go to Tools Internet options Programs tab
click on the last option click again on the last option
Personalize button select Windows Live Mail.

I have the french version of IE 8 so I don't know the exact terms
in english.

This solved my problem.

Thank you for that, but following your instructions gets me to the program
defaults section, which I have tried already. This doesn't solve either of
the original problems.

Thanks again,

Peter

For anyone else who may be able to give me some tips on this, I've
reproduced the original query again below:

Instead of Set Your Default Programs, select Set Program Access and Computer
Defaults. Highlight Custom, go down to 'Choose a default e-mail program',
pick Windows Live Mail instead of 'Use my current e-mail program', make sure
the box to the right is checked, and click OK. Exit out of everything and
restart IE. It should work now.

Thanks for this, but I already tried it.

When I do this, there are two choices for me under "Custom" - Windows Live
Mail and Opera. I pick Windows Live Mail instead of "Use my current email
program" as you describe. I make sure that the check box next to Opera is
unchecked and then click ok. A box appears briefly telling me my settings
are being saved. Then I restart IE8 and it still doesn't work, and neither
does right clicking a file and "send to mail recipient". When I go back into
"Set program access and computer defaults", the selection has moved back to
"Use my current email program" and the checkbox in Opera is checked again.

This was working fine until a couple of days ago. Send link by mail works in
all other browsers I have installed (Opera, Firefox, Safari and Chrome) -
just not in IE8. I'm pretty sure it stopped working at the same time as the
right click send to mail recipient.

Anyway - thanks again for your reply.

Peter

If you set the email defaults to a different email client (e.g. Opera), does the Right-click-Send to-Mail recipient, and IE's File-Send- Page by E-mail.../Link by E-mail... functions work for that email client?

By the way, you can ignore Jack's suggestion to bottom post... When replying to someone who is top-posting, it makes sense to continue top-posting, just as it makes sense to continue bottom-posting when replying to someone who is bottom-posting. Thus, to break the flow mid-thread, is as unhelpful as Jack's posts.

It would help if you mentioned your Operating System though. Obviously it is not WinXP...
