Illegal? By who's warped and ****witted definition? Oh, sorry, silly question. I'm very sure it is against the law to install this crapware on a PC of your employer, which makes it illegal crapware! I've never had any issues with slicking the hardware they give me, and putting on Linux. In fact, the customer's IT department seems to leave you alone if you run Linux, as long as you update frequently. My brother works in brokerage they have very strict rules regarding personal software, USB keys and so forth. It's dictated by the SEC and penalties do exist but at worst they are civil penalties. Most often the person either gets warned or fired. It's not against the law though. Where I work, they have a saying: "It is better to ask forgiveness than permission." In other words, be safe, but git 'er done. -- Is it clean in other dimensions? |

Illegal? By who's warped and ****witted definition? Oh, sorry, silly question. I'm very sure it is against the law to install this crapware on a PC of your employer, Maybe you live in a country where your employer actually 'owns' you, and can have you killed at will, but........ Other than that, it would only be a violation of some company policy....hardly illegal......still enough to get you fired though. So, at least in the civilized world, I'm very sure you're wrong. In my civilized country (Holland), the "company policy" has to be written down in a collective agreement, employment contract, which is protected by law. It's stricktly forbidden to install or use non company software on a PC, provided to you by the employer. Yes, I understand, but that does not make it illegal, you can not get arrested and jailed, you will not be put on trial for it. So isn't it.. "It's stricktly forbidden to install or use non company software on a PC, provided to you by the employer *IF THAT'S WHAT'S WRITTEN IN THE COMPANY POLICY THAT THE EMPLOYEE AGREED TO*. ? Please don't shout! I don't think 'forbidden' and 'illegal' are interchangeable in this case. I never stated he has to go to jail, I said "illegal", meaning: 1. Prohibited by law. 2. Prohibited by official rules: an illegal pass in football. 3. Unacceptable to or not performable by a computer: an illegal operation. I'm convinced any employer would fire him right on the spot! |
