Default System Information (winmsd) and System Properties show different total memory.

I have 2 256 MB Dimms, for a total of 512 MB. System Properties shows the
full 512. However, the System Information utility shows only 384MB Total
Physical Memory. The difference is 128MB, half of one Dimm. The POST
memory check seems to be seeing the full amount. Task Manager sees the full
amount also. I ran a memory tester I downloaded from Microsoft, and it
didn't get any errors, although I couldn't tell how much memory it was
testing.

Is this normal?

Thanks for any help.

I did some googling and I found a few messages saying that this was a known
bug of XP. But anyway, I ran DXDiag as you suggested and it sees all the
memory.
I checked System Information again, and it is definitely "Total Physical
Memory". "Available" is around 342.

I guess it is just a bug, but thanks for your help.

No repro here. Are you running your memory in Dual Channel mode by
chance? Are you sure you were looking at Total and not Available? Also,
try DXDIAG in the Run command and see what it comes up with. I am
generally missing 1-2 MB of memory in DXDIAG, but everything else shows
up as 512 MB. :/
