Default Quick Time

I have windows xp sp2,and want to know if I need Quick Time. Apparently it is
not working correctly which it keeps reminding me, usually when I am on face
book. So do I uninstall it and redo it or not? Thanks

Obligatory nag
Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13,
2010. To continue receiving security updates for Windows, make sure
you're running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3).

QuickTime Player is Apple's media player. You need it if you want to
play media that only it can play ... generally some video clips. You
also need QuickTime Player if you have iTunes installed.

If it's giving you problems, uninstall it. If you then try to click on
a media clip that requires QuickTime, you'll get a message that the clip
requires QuickTime to view.

The main QuickTime support page is he
http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/
And the latest version is he http://support.apple.com/kb/DL837

Quick Time has never worked right. I installed it back when I was
running Windows 3.x. It caused me so many problems I could not number
them all. I finally reinstalled Windows to get rid of the damn thing.
I again installed it in Win98. Same sort of thing happened. I have
never installed Quick Time since on any computer. Avoid it like the
black plague. It puts so much crap in your windows folder that it can
not ever be entirely removed. Just going to website with Quick Time
content dumps a file in your windows/system folder which begs you to
install their QT trash.

I should also note that the now seldom used Real Player was just as
bad. RP was one of the first programs to contain spyware, back when
everyone was still running Win3.x. RP also caused system problems.

DO NOT install either of them. There are Codec packs that allow you
to play both of these formats. Someone on here should know what do
get, and where.

I find the easiest thing to do, is during the install of QuickTime,
untick all the file associations when prompted. If you don't let it
hijack file associations, you'll hardly know it is even there.

Paul
