You can download the installer from the Adobe site.

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html gives you...

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...02_flash10.zip

When you finish downloading the ZIP, unzip it. Then look
for the "Release" folder. The two files you want are

Install Flash Player 10 ActiveX.exe 1,955,472 bytes

Install Flash Player 10 Plugin.exe 1,923,768 bytes

The first of those files, installs Flash in Internet Explorer.

The second of those files, does the same for Firefox or other
Netscape-family browsers.

That allows finer control, of which browser has Flash installed.

The advantage of using those installers, is the browsers do
not have to be running during the installation, and there
could be fewer "security" barriers to completing the install.

OK. Unzip the downloaded file, then look for the file. The
file is located in the following directory structure. You should
be seeing a "Players" folder and a "Release" folder, and then
the files are in there. I have to tell you that, because there
are two files with identical names. The other file is in the
"Debug" folder, and you don't want that one.

I have the entry

Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X

in my Add/Remove programs, and that is the one I'd use if I
wanted to remove Flash for Internet Explorer. If it is
installed using the browser and a web page, I don't know
if you get an Add/Remove entry from that or not.

Other than that, if you still can't get it working, there could
be a more serious problem there. Perhaps something
registry related, or some active malware on the
computer.

HTH,

1. If the "version information" shown at
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ is "10,0,42,34" then you
*don't* have the latest version installed. What do you mean that you
"don't pass the test"?

Do the following in a User Account that has administrative privileges.

2. Go to Control Panel Add or Remove Programs and remove anything
that begins "Adobe Flash Player ..." You may have two entries, one
that says "ActiveX" (which works with Internet Explorer) and one that
says "Plugin" (which works with Firefox).

3. Reboot your computer.

4. Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows\system32. Look for a
folder named Macromed (C:\Windows\system32\Macromed). If this folder
exists, see if it includes a folder named Flash
(C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash). If the Flash folder exists,
delete all files that are in it. If the Flash folder or the Macromed
folder does not exist, that's fine.

5. Using Internet Explorer, download the current Flash player installer
file. You may do this by one of the following means:
a. Enter the following in the Address box:
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flas..._player_ax.exe
b. Enter the following in the Address box:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you use option (b), be sure to UNcheck the box for the "Free McAfee®
Security Scan Plus (optional)" *before* you click the "Agree and install
now" button.
If you use option (a), after the download is complete, find the file you
downloaded and double-click it.

6. Close IE and reboot.
7. Open IE and go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
This should now report version 10,0,45,2. You should see the
"Successfully installed" animation.
8. Close IE and open Firefox.
9. In Firefox, go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
You should see something that says that you need a plugin to display the
content. Click on the plugin icon. The plugin should install and you
should see the "Successfully installed" animation.

Sorry, I forgot the most important step.

Before step 2, go to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download the file and follow the instructions. After you do this, there
shouldn't be any entries in Add/Remove programs, but pick up with step 2
and go from there.

APSB10-06 Security update available for Adobe Flash Player
QP
A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Flash Player version
10.0.42.34 and earlier. This vulnerability (CVE-2010-0186) could subvert the
domain sandbox and make unauthorized cross-domain requests.

Adobe recommends users of Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42.34 and earlier versions
update to Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2.
