Unidentifiable Programs Attempting Internet Access
Does anyone know have information about some unknown and unidentifiable
programs that have been trying to access the Internet from my computer? This is the situation. Recently my firewall started notifying me of some programs which were trying to access the Internet from my computer for the first time. I haven’t been able to identify how these programs are being generated or their true function. My firewall has no information on them other than their name. These programs have only a number and .exe for a name. Here are a few examples: 136.exe, 13642.exe, 1357.exe, 10060.exe, 18885.exe, 16690.exe and 16534.exe. I am receiving 15 to 20 of these in a 24 hour period. To date I have blocked more than 150 of these programs. Each new program has a different numerical designation so I can’t block them as a group. I have to block each one individually. Every time I block one within an hour or two another one pops up with an entirely different numerical designation. I have also tried letting some of them access the Internet to see if this would stop the generation of new requests but that hasn’t helped either. After allowing one or more programs access to the Internet I continue to get requests for new programs with a different numerical designation to access the Internet. It is an endless process with no apparent way to stop new programs from being generated and requesting Internet access for the first time. I don’t believe these are harmful or some type of spy ware but I’m not sure. I have run my anti virus software and spy ware blockers like Ad Ware, CW Shredder, Spybot S & D, etc. several times with the latest updates and they have had no effect on these programs. Due to the fact that nothing will stop new programs with a different numerical designation from requesting Internet access for the first time this is becoming a real troublesome problem as I am constantly dealing with these Internet access requests. If anyone has information on what these programs are doing and how I can stop them PLEASE let me know. |

I did a Google for "136.exe" and came up with this thread in the AumHa HijackThis forum: http://tinyurl.com/4suyc I suggest you read through those posts carefully and do a scan with HijackThis yourself. All anti-malware scans should be done in Safe Mode. HijackThis requires expert skill. Here are links to a tutorial and to sites where you can post your log (not here, please). I recommend the AumHa forum. http://www.aumha.org/a/hjttutor.htm - HijackThis tutorial by Jim Eshelman http://aumha.net - forums http://spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5 - Spyware Warrior HijackThis forum http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ http://forums.tomcoyote.org/ Malke -- MS MVP - Windows Shell/User www.elephantboycomputers.com In Memoriam - MVP Alex Nichol |
