Do change in DSL speed when using Netflix
I started using Netflix thru my Blue Ray player.
I expected my DSL speed to decrease while playing a movie, but there was no decrease in speed. Why is that ? Download Speed: 2995 kbps (374.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 572 kbps (71.5 KB/sec transfer rate) |

Do change in DSL speed when using Netflix
From: "Andy"
I started using Netflix thru my Blue Ray player. I expected my DSL speed to decrease while playing a movie, but there was no decrease in speed. Why is that ? Download Speed: 2995 kbps (374.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 572 kbps (71.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Think of the Internet as water through a pipe. Say you get a certain flow rate ( Internet speed ) through a 1" pipe. You turn on a faucet that uses a 1/2" pipe. Then you turn on a faucet that also uses a 1/2" pipe. The 1st flow is relatively unaffected by the turning on a 2cnd faucet. Now look at it as you turn on a faucet that uses a 1" pipe. Then you turn on a faucet that also uses a 1/2" pipe. Now the flow that uses a 1" pipe drops as the second, 1/2" water flow draws off water. The Blue Ray movie stream may just use enough bandwidth so you can watch a streaming movie. However if you started somwthing from a PC like FTP a 200MB binary, the streaming movie may be affected. -- Dave Multi-AV Scanning Tool - http://multi-av.thespykiller.co.uk http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |
