Media Player 9 Failure

I recently "upgraded" my Media Player 8 to the new
version 9.. but as soon as I installed the new version,
Media Player stopped working. Now all I get when I try to
start the program is an error window saying "An internal
application error has occured." I cannot find ANY support
for this on the Microsoft web site, and it seems they
want me to pay them a handful of cash for support. If
