Default Microsoft Works

My husband's laptop came loaded with MS Works. The laptop recently died, and
while he backed up his files I can't open them intact on my desltop using
Word. I used the converter and got the text back, but not the formatting and
it's a mess. My question is this: can I somehow use the restore disks that
came with the laptop to restore only Works (on my computer) or do I just need
to purchase a copy of the program? He's going to buy another laptop when he
decides what he wants, but in looking at reviews, it doesn't appear that
Works comes with some of them. Any suggestions would be helpful and much
appreciated. BTW: OP system is XP.

I think you're right. Just saw a new one listed on eBay for cheap. Thanks
for your response.

P. S. Didn't mean to post same thing twice--dunno how that happened.
Apologies.
