Default $6 Halide app supposedly unlocks secret camera abilities of the new 2020 iPhone SE

Dunno if this is a shill or not... but here's the data as I read it...

$6 Halide app unlocks secret camera abilities of the new 2020 iPhone SE
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/halide-camera/id885697368

At least that's the summary according to David Phelan:
o Apple iPhone SE 2020: New App Update Fixes Phone's Biggest Issue
https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidphelan/2020/04/29/apple-iphone-se-2020-new-app-update-fixes-phones-biggest-issue/
And mirrored over he
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulmonckton/2020/04/29/apples-secret-iphone-se-feature-is-missing-from-iphone-11-pro/

Verbatim:
"The [Halide] Portrait effects are only applied after you've taken the
shot, not in real-time as you frame up in Apple's Camera.

But, once you've taken it, the results are the same, down to how you can
adjust depth of field or add Portrait Lighting effects in the Photos app."

"The biggest surprise, however, is that this trick can be made to work on
any existing picture. This includes those taken with completely different
cameras and even printed photographs."

See also the supposedly impressive results from free Google GCAM ports:
o *Hint: Changing the camera app can remarkably improve your photo quality of results (but why?)*

The only one the least bit surprised by this...

....is you.

Hi Alan,

This isn't about me, Alan, despite your incessant childishness.
o Please stick to the thread topic - instead of always deflecting it.

*This thread is about an app that supposedly "unlocks" camera abilities.*

Does it?
o I don't know.

Do you?
o Does anyone?

Is there a better app?
o Is there a free app that does the same thing?

I don't know.
o All I know are the facts in the opening post as they were presented:

If you, or anyone else, has an _adult_ response, hopefully technical...
o That would enlighten all of us who are adults who care about the topic.

In the opening post were three sets of factual sites to help guide us:
1. The Forbes cites which make the claim of "unlocking" secret abilities.
2. The Halide cites pointing to a for-pay related software application.
3. The Google GCAM APK port cites with scores of side-by-side comparisons.

Key technical questions for _adults_ on this newsgroup are legion...
o Some of which are quite relevant...

Such as:
a. *Does this app really do what is claimed in the cites?*
b. *Are there free apps which do the same things?* (if not, why not?)
c. *Is there any "real" value to what is claimed in these cites?*
etc.

Nope. There is literally nothing in that article about unlocking any
abilities of the camera itself. Your own quote from it makes that clear:

"The biggest surprise, however, is that this trick can be made to work
on any existing picture. This includes those taken with completely
different cameras and even printed photographs."

Perhaps that's why you've now snipped the link, hmmm?

And contradicts itself by pointing out that:

"The biggest surprise, however, is that this trick can be made to work
on any existing picture. This includes those taken with completely
different cameras and even printed photographs."

2. The Halide cites pointing to a for-pay related software application.

Quote this.
