WinXP SP2. Can't install on laptop frustration.
I have a laptop which has no battery, but that's OK I can just use it
on AC power just fine. Both WinXP and Win98 on the laptop incorrectly "think" that the laptop is running on a battery, even though it's not (seems like a h/w fault); it's just a minor annoyance. However, when I try to install SP2 it refuses to install since it says I have to be on AC power before the SP2 upgrade will run. They are being cautious since they do not want people's laptops to run out of juice half way though an upgrade. However, I am really on AC power and the laptop is in no danger of running out of power. How can I work around this? Does anyone know a Reg entry, file entry or service I can change to PREVENT WinXP "thinking" it's running on a laptop. I have been into the BIOS and disabled everything that I can find connected with power or power saving mode. OzJohn |
