Do I need a male to male DVI cable or male to female cable to connect a monitor to a desktop ?

What's important is what type of connector is on your video card. If they are not a match there are adapters available. JT -- |

Andy No. Monitors get input, they don't generate an output. Computers generate an "output". Most monitors will provide at least one video cable. Some may supply one video cable per video port it uses. All devices are females. That is a computer will have a Female receptacle and all monitors will have a Female receptacle. Thus all video cables will be Male to Male. That is all standard VGA, DVI, HDMI and Display Port cables will will have a Male Plug on both ends. NOTE: Some older VGA monitors may have had a built-in VGA cable that had a male plug.
