Default Can't ping localhost or LAN IP

I'm using WinXP Pro on a network with two other computers. One is running
XP Home, and the other is WinME. I use a one way satellite(Direcway) for my
internet connection. I can ping both of the other computers on the network
using the computer name or the IP address. Files seem to be shared just
fine, and I can get online and share the connection. When I ping localhost,
my computer name or my LAN card IP address, all the pings time out. Also,
when I ping the computer name, instead of pinging the LAN IP address, it
pings the address on my Direcway satellite adapter, which then times out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
