Hi, I have tinnitus, it's like a high frequency noise that disturbs
concentration and sleep. I suffer from this disease for 10 years long.
Is this related with Windows 8?

Not 8, you need to ask in the windows 10nitus group :-)

Are you trying to get nominated for dumbest post on USENET?

No, but your bloody hemorrhoids are. You really should have taken care
of them earlier, but now it's too late to avoid a painful, protracted
death. My condolences.

It happens that whizz formulated :

Ask yourself how long Windows 8 has been around and then read that
question again.

No. The noise is coming from inside your head. Even a tinfoil hat
cannot protect you from it.

If I put wet cotton in ears, I get about 10% noise reduction, so the source
is external.

Not true. Wet cotton is known to reduce the efficacy of the neural
connections between the ears and the brain.

When I lived in Buffalo, NY, the other students told me that if I wore
rubbers (slip-on overshoes to keep shoes & feet dry) indoors, I'd go
blind.

I laughed at them and ignored the advice.

I can still see.

Maybe those students were confused or misinterpreted the information
they received....who knows maybe the covered risk was due to 'Trojans'

Those should more accurately be called "Greeks". The "Trojans" were
the CPU's and HDD's affected by the gifties.
But I suppose it's about 2500 years too late to have that one
corrected?

"Trojan" asteroids are called that because the first few were named
after Trojan people, mostly mythological. There is no connection
between the falling rocks and the tale of the dubious gifts, apart
from the obvious similarity in name.

Could be tinnitus related with mosquito alarm?

Mosquito alarm is an electronic device used to deter loitering by young
people by emitting sound at high frequency, in some versions so it can only
be heard by younger people. The devices have attracted controversy on the
basis of human rights and discrimination concerns.

The device is marketed as a safety and security tool for preventing youths
from congregating in specific areas. As such, it is promoted to reduce
anti-social behaviour such as loitering, graffiti, vandalism, drug use, drug
distribution, and violence. In the UK, over 3,000 have been sold, mainly for
use outside shops and near transport hubs.[1] The device is also sold in
Australia, France, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and
the USA.[2]

Critics say that it discriminates against young people and infringes their
human rights, while supporters argue that making the Mosquito illegal would
infringe the rights of shopkeepers who suffer business losses when "unruly
teenagers" drive away their customers.[3] Mosquito distributors have said
that they keep standards to ensure that the device is not abused, and Howard
Stapleton who invented the device has asked European governments to
legislate guidelines governing its use.[2]

The newest version of the device, launched late in 2008, has two frequency
settings, one of approximately 17.4 kHz[4] that can generally be heard only
by young people, and another at 8 kHz that can be heard by most people. The
maximum potential output sound pressure level is stated by the manufacturer
to be 108 decibels (dB).[5] The sound can typically only be heard by people
below 25 years of age, as the ability to hear high frequencies deteriorates
in humans with age (a phenomenon known as presbycusis).

It probably seems *much* longer. You have my sympathies. Tinnitus is
a horrible thing and often incurable and untreatable. Many doctors
used to think it was all in your head, imaginary, not real, but that
is an out-moded position. Today, they do try to treat it, though with
little success in many patients.
There is a temporary phenomenon that sounds much like what tinnitus
sufferers hear constantly, it is the whine as air escapes from the
inner ear to equalise pressure. This lasts a few seconds in most
people and is rare. In tinnitus, it often lasts all day, every day and
it can be very much louder than that whining hiss.
Some tinnitus sufferers wander about wearing headphones and listening
to loud music. Rock is best, though some Classical can help and
ballads in foreign languages are exceedingly distracting.
For others, this strategy just makes it worse as the music slowly
damages the ears.

You let the cat out of the bag :-)

And you made me laugh.

You also proved I was right to disambiguate the word with my
parenthetical remark :-)

To tell the truth, I could never get any idea where their idea came
from. Maybe it did relate to the product that was sold for the
prevention of disease only. BTW, I don't recall what the kids in Buffalo
called those products - I do know that various slang words, especially
for things relating to sex, varied in the different cities I grew up in.
