Default Windows 10 Task Bar?

I just did an on-line download and upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 this
morning and can't get the task bar settings that I used to have. The
"Search the web and Windows" icon takes up about 1/3 of the tack bar
and I can't figure out how to shrink it down to a reasonable size. Any
suggestions other than use my fire axe?

In general I like what I've seen in Windows 10 but I haven't had time
to explore it very thoroughly. Another problem I've come across is the
layout for the Desktop. It is narrow and extends below the bottom of
the screen. I would like to expand its width and fit it onto the
screen like I had it in Windows 8.

Rightclick Taskbarcortanaicon or hide

Mine is the same can only make it so wide, At least it scrolls up and
down and not sidewise.

Thanks, Rene. Problem resolved. Now if I could figure out how to pin
my favorites bar along the left edge of the Microsoft Edge screen then
make it a bit narrower than it presently is along the right side of
the screen, I would be very satisfied with the new setup. Gordon

Well, the problem popped back up. I can't figure out how to do
anything to permanently modify the "Search the web and Windows" icon.
It seems to be carved in stone and will be a permanent thing. Gordon

Thanks, Andy. This seems to have worked. I'll let you know if it pops
back up the next time I re-boot. Gordon

Still working well! Now, if I could just figure out how to move the
Favorites bar to the left edge of the screen and trim it down to a
narrower width???? Gordon

Right click the task bar and untick "lock the taskbar", then drag the
various bars to the desired width, lock it again afterwards to save a
few pixels for the border markers.

I may be doing something wrong but I can't get this to work. I can
unlock the task bar then drag the individual items a bit but when I
release the mouse button they snap right back to where they came from.
Maybe I need some spray glue to stick them where I want them instead
of where they want to be??? Gordon
