Can't transfer files or use voice or video
I have 2 computers connected to DSL with the Linksys
BEFSR41 (I have the newest firmware). Buth computers are very similar in hardware. One works perfectly with Windows Messenger (I can send files, have video conferencing, etc). The second one lets me chat but I can't transfer files nor have video conference. The error I get is "can't send file, connection is blocked". I checked and as far as I can tell the configurations on both computers seem to be the same. Is there something I'm missing? Anyone has had this problem before? Thanks, Daniel |

Can't transfer files or use voice or video
Greetings Daniel,
Since you have the latest firmware (1.44.2) for the BEFSR41, and you're able to make voice/video conversations, your BEFSR41 has Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) enabled. However, you shouldn't be able to send files through Windows Messenger (although there is built-in support for Windows Messenger file transfer, it should be disabled when you use UPnP). On the second PC, make sure that the Internet Connection Firewall isn't enabled -- click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click the network connection, then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is unchecked. Then install MSN Messenger 5 on the 2nd PC, which has UPnP file transfer: http://messenger.msn.com/download/do....asp?client=1. I'm not quite sure why Windows Messenger on your first PC would be able to send files with the latest firmware and UPnP enabled, are you sure you're not using MSN Messenger 5 on your first PC? ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Daniel Party" wrote in message ...
