Default win8 vs win8.1 preview

Has anyone had any real problems with win8.1 preview?
Has anyone noticed any performce increase with 8.1 over 8?

Two freezes involving the Start menu icon and
column of Metro icons. One freeze resolved itself, after
I waited for a couple minutes.

And a problem with a loss of control (via Task Manager),
when the system was under Pool memory pressure. I
couldn't use Task Manager (which was already running),
to shut down the application that sucked up all
the Pool memory. I eventually had to power off the
system to recover. This takes Win8.1 off my "suitable
for use as a compute engine" list.

Compute performance, at least on my setup, seems to be
about the same.

I did, but I was on LSD at the time.

Windows 8.1 is so much better than Windows 8 that it's like
peanut-butter-AND-jelly (PB&J) instead of just plain bread.
The colors are brighter; the sounds are crisper; and, the air
is much cleaner; PLUS, it leaves a smaller carbon-footprint.
Windows 8.1 is downright 'Earth-Friendly'... We should be too!

HTH.

Isn't windows 8.1 a subscription service? You have to pay for it
periodically, and pay for it again, over and over?

No, it isn't. That's Office 365.

Microsoft is making an update to Windows 8.0, calling it Windows 8.1,
and were going to have to pay for it like a new operating system? Or
will it be free to Windows 8.0 users?
