SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
I had a PERFECTLY normal, secure, wonderful (hah!) running system before
I installed SP2 for Windows XP, which destroyed EVERYTHING!!!! I had McAfee Security Service running, which apparently conflicted with windows security, in spite of windows trying their best to make it as generic as possible. Well, after UNINSTALLING mcafee and telling the dumb, !@#$!@ windows Firewall to shutup and let port 10277 be accessible from outside the network, it still did NOT allow 10277 (just a random port -- it has no significance by the way) to be accessed from outside the network. I then switched the firewall OFF and it STILL "silently" firewalled my computer WITHOUT my concent!!!!!THEN! on top of ALL of this, INTERNET EXPLORER started misbehaving. Every time I try browsing a site, I have to refresh bloody ten times to get it to display the page. Most of the times I get the "Page cannot be displayed - check your connection" error and God knows what else. I'm tired of this.. I've uninstalled it and I am PRAYING that my computer becomes USABLE again. DO NOT INSTALL SP2 unless you know nothing about computers and all you do on your desktop is check emails and use MICROSOFT'S MSN!!! STEVE! |

How many non techies are there who use XP compared to techies? A million to one? MS should have provided step by step instructions on ONE web site. They should have had a link to it on WU with the recommendation that one print it. But what do they do? The recommend AU and, surprise, surprise, non techies have problems. MS could have done all that, and it would have been completely ignored.
Most of the people who are having issues are the kind of folks that don't read the installation instructions, website precaution statements, etc. They do not know how to, or are too lazy to keep their system running properly. If they put as much energy into troubleshooting as they do in blaming and flaming MS, they would have fixed their problems. Bobby "Alias" wrote in message ... how to cross-post, but apparently hasn't bothered reading any SP2 related posts. -- johnf "NoNoBadDog!" mypants_bjsledgeATpixi.com wrote in message ... MS could have done all that, and it would have been completely ignored. Or MS could have checked running processes on the machine for known ones from large companies that they already knew were going to cause problems, had decided they weren't going to have the installation made compatible with, and shut them down. They had months to figure this out. Most of the people who are having issues are the kind of folks that don't read the installation instructions, website precaution statements, etc. They do not know how to, or are too lazy to keep their system running properly. If they put as much energy into troubleshooting as they do in blaming and flaming MS, they would have fixed their problems. Ok, I'm sitting here happy to put energy into troubleshooting, Windows Explorer simply refuses to accept any keystrokes or mouse clicks, can't select a file in recycle bin, can't select an item in control panel, can't select a file in an open folder. Have diagnosed that it does not happen if the system is running in safe mode. Appear to have no other problems with SP2, thankful for that. Have read hundreds of these supposed "fixes" and "reasons" that the upgrade didn't work. None of them apply, don't have Divx, don't have any printer connected, have all the latest drivers, don't have Zone Alarm, don't have any of the other "bad" programs, I've even defragged the system, just because some people somehow think that has anything to do with anything... now tell me why my energy I've put in for the last three days trying to find a solution for this hasn't worked? There are those in the newsgroup with generic good advice, like get rid of viruses, who could disagree with that, but who I'll bet serious cash have no evidence that this is the actual source of any of the problems. There are those in the newsgroup with pointless superstition, like "for god's sake, just defrag a few more times and maybe a miracle will occur" but I'll bet serious cash have no evidence that this is the actual source of any of the problems. There are a tiny tiny handful of items that actually appear like they might really address a real problem related to SP2. And then there are the smart-asses in this group who think it is all the user's fault and there are no problems with SP2 and if you are having a problem then you are just too stupid to be a Microsoft customer. To those I recommend you tell Microsoft buy a series of television commercials saying "If you had a problem you are too stupid to be our customer, we don't want you or your money." I imagine Microsoft will be happy to convey your conclusion to their customers. Bobby "Alias" wrote in message ... really need to consider reality before suggesting things like that. Don Taylor wrote: Or MS could have checked running processes on the machine for known ones from large companies that they already knew were going to cause problems, |
