Default [OT] Need help pinpointing a possible Windows bug

Thanks. I found the relevant KB: 927824.

It seems that there's actually some changes in the OS installer of Windows 7
and newer versions. They tried to fix it, but does it poorly.

In Windows 7 and newer versions, they have these settings as in the default
clean installation (using PS/2 keyboard during installation):

"LayerDriver JPN" = "kbd101.dll"
"OverrideKeyboardIdentifier" = "PCAT_101KEY"
"OverrideKeyboardSubtype" = 0x00000000
"OverrideKeyboardType" = 0x00000007

In Windows Vista and Windows XP, they weren't in default clean installation
(using PS/2 keyboard during installation) even though the keyboard driver
(i8042prt.sys) already support the "OverrideKeyboardXXX" settings.

Glad to have helped. I installed UK English Windows 10 on my wife's
Dell laptop with a Japanese keyboard layout and face a constant battle
to stop Windows messing up the keyboard settings.

I wanted her GUI settings to be Japanese and mine to be UK English (so I
can do adminstration) but Windows can't seem to cope.

Linux has handled this situation correctly for years...
