I use a cable like that to connect a laptop (USB-to-Serial DB-9) to a Console port (RJ-45, but Serial rather than Ethernet). |

I've used several pieces of equipment that used such a cable for monitoring and control. Networking equipment and also a UPS. For some reason, the manufacturer decided to use a 8p8c connector instead of the DE9 usually used for serial. -- Mark Lloyd http://notstupid.us/ "Never build a dungeon you wouldn't be happy to spend the night in yourself. Whatever is used, it's nice to be able to use the same cable across multiple pieces of equipment from multiple vendors. |
