Camera not working with Win10
Title says it all really. Among other annoying little bugs that need
sorting out, since upgrading I cannot get my laptop camera to work. A black screen with the little camera icon, but nothing happens when pressed. Any help appreciated needless to say.B |

Any help appreciated needless to say.B If you are asking for help to get the problem resolved you have not provided enough information for most of us. You need to provide the brand and model of the laptop for starters. Also were you upgrading with a 32-bit or 64-bit Operating Software and what Operating System was in the machine prior to upgrading to Windows 10. If say it had W7, don't just say W7, was it W7 Pro, Ultimate, Home. At this stage about all I can suggest is to go into the system control panel|devices|display adapter and write down what W10 thinks is there. Then delete the display adapter and reboot the machine. If/when it asks you if the system can look on the internet for a driver tell it to do so and with luck the machine will find it. |

Any help appreciated needless to say.B I just tried a camera the computer had not seen before, and the "Camera" application in the alphabetical Start menu list, worked with it. There are two kinds of cameras. There are USB cameras which are UVC (USB Video Class) compliant. And cameras with custom drivers. The ones with custom drivers are really cheap for the manufacturer, so if you need a "token" camera, that's the type you use. Basically, the lens on the camera, fills the hole on the laptop chassis. My laptop has such a "hole-filling" camera, which isn't of much practical usage at all. If you have a custom camera, you're going to need to check Device Manager (right-click Start to find it in the text list of system tools). You can check whether the webcam has a driver, or whether there is a yellow mark. And request Windows to try to find a driver for it. Which really should have been done during Win10 installation. You could also return to your old OS, get identification and driver information for the camera there. Line up your drivers before hand. Reinstall Win10. Etc. My Win10 install still has 24 unresolved driver items in Device Manager, so it's not like the Win10 install is bulletproof or anything. Far from it. Paul |

Paul Further information about my machine and set up. It is a Sony Vaio laptop. 64bit I upgraded from win8.Home. My adapter is an AMDRadeon HD 5000 series and when I look for an upgraded driver I am told that I already have the latest. Brian, if you have not already seen a form of this warning, it appears that Sony is actively warning against trying to upgrade their laptops to Windows 10 unless Sony has first waved their magic wand over your model. http://www.komando.com/happening-now...rticle_4-title The warning is on page two of the article. Hopefully your machine is one that Sony plans to provide upgrade information for soon. |

Droves of users leaping to Windows 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOOs8MaR1YM Ooh, a new version of Windows. Gotta have it. It's new. Oh ohhhhhh. Yeah, it's a man-made myth (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsFVzywPNEc) but still apropos to the droves of users switching to Windows 10 for no good reason other than it's new. So humans are dumber than lemmings. |

I'm not sure I fol low you. Because then on reboot Windows should recognise the device, and install the correct driver for it. Yes, it will reinstall the display adapter but what about the camera that seems to be the problem in this thread? |
