Why does my computer keep disappearing from the local network?

Corsai has always been a pain in the plectrum and one of its habits is to keep disappearing from the network. Right now, when I check the network, there is no sign of it but some times it shows up as a media device. This is the situation when I check from either Corsair or Dell. I can easily bring it out of hiding. All I have to do is reset the network from Corsair. But one or two days later it has gone again. I've now spent nearly two years struggling with this machine and as far as I can tell both Corsair and Dell use the same settings. But Dell behaves itself and Corsair continues to be a pig. I have no idea of what setting is changing and no idea of where I should be looking. Has anyone got any suggestions about what I should be looking for? I have received a large volume of advice in response to this and I am very grateful for that. I have acted on all the advice I have received and and both computers are identically configured. As of last night the situation was that Corsair was at last visible on the network but weirdly it was now Dell which couldn't be seen by file explorer on either computer. (!) Each computer could still be found by the use of \\Name in file explorer. So today I have checked both computers and verified that both computers were still configured as they should have been. They were. I then reset the network on Corsair and verified that everything we had touched so far had not been changed in the reset. However Dell still remained hidden. I then moved to Dell and verified that all was still as it was. Finally I reset Dell's network and after checking that nothing had changed I found that Dell was now visible to both itself and Corsair. I have not yet got an answer to the Router DHCP IPV4 addressing. That will have to wait until monday when the local NetComm opens. |

Separately, I have 8-port switches. 2'500 SqFt of WiFi Coverage. 3 "high-gain" antennas and "strong" amplifiers. Connects to 50+ devices. OpenWRT _ can be loaded on it. It's for my tenants, and they haven't said anything; so I don't really know if it's any good or not. Amazon recommended it, in the "budget" category. How much did you pay for it? |

I'm not using Win 10, but my main computer occasionally disappears, and I've found that my Comcast providsed Norton Security needs to be restarted. Do that, and everything works again. I'd love to know why it goes away. |
