Are there any version of Solitaire and Mahjong that will run on Windows 10?

I had downloaded the above games for Windows 8.1, and they were working
fine. However when I upgraded to Windows 10, Mahjong was so small it
was un useable. The zoom in icon did not zoom in. The zoom out zoom
out but it only made the tiles smaller.

With Solitaire it is so tied to the X box, that it is also unusable. It
too is quite small on my laptop screen.

Don't bother with the m$ solitaire. see:
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/07/30/windo...solitaire.html

or anything "free"

Time to hunt for really free games. Some online DOS games do
work tho. https://archive.org/details/software...msdos_games/v2

If you can find a physical CD copy of the eGames version of Mahjongg 5 I
know that works just fine on the two W10-64 machines I've tried it on.
Since version 5 works you might also look for version 6 but only the
eGames CD version. The CD is so old it lists Windows 95/98/2000/ME and
of course XP as what it is supposed to run on.

It asks you to register it but the server it tries to send the
registration to no longer exists, but once you get past that it works
just fine. I don't think the CD actually did anything to register it
other than collect the names and such to sell to others.

The eGames web site no longer lists this version of the game as far as I
could determine.

Depending on your screen resolution the upper and lower group of tiles
might be half off the screen. The tile sizes can be adjusted with a
right click and then scrolling the mouse so it actually looks good.

Last time I bought the CD it was almost a giveaway at either Staples or
Office Max, stuck in their leftover games section.

This works on win 8.1 and is free, might be worth a try on 10

I'm running the Win7 versions of the ones I like (Solitaire, Spider
Solitaire, Mahjong, and FreeCell), and they all work and look like they did
in Win7. Just resize the window for your screen and the cards and tiles
follow in size.
There are numerous methods of making this happen, but I think this is the
easiest way:

At one time, people were doing it for themselves,
and using a "patcher". Just to give some background.

http://www.intowindows.com/play-wind...-in-windows-8/

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/thr...dows-8-x/page2

So if you do happen to download the "package", you
could potentially unzip it, use a compare utility
and verify the file size is similar and only
those identity strings have been modified.
I slightly different string is used for x32 versus
x64 games.

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/thr...dows-8-x/page2

I'm really surprised those files aren't signed, which
would make modifying them just a trifle more
difficult.

That was the way I did it originally- copied my folders/files over from my
Win7 machine to my Win8.0 machine, and ran the patcher. Since that is so
hard to find now (if not impossible), I keep a copy of it (v1.2) on my image
drives and on my PC, just in case :-)

On a side note, I just realized it has only cost me $14 to from Win7 Win8
Win8.1 Win10Pro x64. Not bad, really :-)

I've got 2 cd Mahjong games I like. One even lets you build tiles. One is version 4 of eGames. The other ValuSoft,
Ultimate Mahjong 15. Been working on all versions of windows so far.

I have tried all of the suggestions in this thread but have not found
games that can be used on Windows 10. With a couple of the downloads,
McAfee took over my computer in its attempts to quarantine all of the
malware and viruses.

Still looking for good free software for the above games.

I don't have the patcher any longer for the old windows 7 Microsoft Games folder but I do think I've got the list of
what bytes to change in a hex editor if anyone wants them, if I can find them again. All you have to do is copy the
files from the "Microsoft Games" folder to win8 and edit them. It's only 2 bytes in each program.

1. Install VirtualBox.
2. Install Ubuntu as a guest system in VirtualBox.
3. Search for games in the Ubuntu repository.
4. Install ones you like the look of.

I have never owned a computer with Win 7, so I can not copy them. I
went straight from Win XP to Widows 8/8.1.

I wish I could just copy from a Win 7 machine.

I have played with the Solitaire settings and I think I have it weaned
from the Store. We will see.

Majhong is still to small to use.

My guess, is you've been here and changed
the setting.

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answe...2Fppi-monitors

The degree to which Mahjong is too small, might
be proportional to the degree of magnification
in the display settings.

It's possible Firefox was affected by adjusting
that too. In the past I've certainly adjusted
that for my eyesight, but for some reason,
on the modern OSes, there is something wrong
with highDPI displays and how these programs
measure the screen.

Just a guess,
Paul

OP The computer was running Windows 8.1 and MS Mahjong before upgrading
and every thing was OK. The zoom in Mahjong was working.

After updating every thing else worked, however the zoom on Mahjong was
not working properly.

All other programs appear to be the correct size.

Well, I was just curious if the degree of scale
error, was proportional to the screen magnification
setting (the DPI thing). Because some other recent
problems were proportional that way.

I saw a thread mentioning some other Mahjong game,
where the author on purpose provided a magnifier
(not the OS provided one).
