In Thunderbird, you can turn off the HTML renderer. This makes the tool capable of supporting more than one kind of user. If you're spammed with a tracking email with 1x1 pixel GIF cookies in it, having HTML turned off means the spammer gets no feedback. Paul |

Cannot get rid of reminders in lockscreen

Neither have I any interest in subscriptions. Current Office 365 is $100/yr. I paid $99 for a 3-year subscription (3 1-year product key cards). Buying direct from Microsoft means you pay the highest price. emClient looks interesting. Be nice if there was a Linux version. Since em Client is not a turbocharged program, like an action video game, I would try running it under WINE. Polling servers is slow, network connections to Exchange, IMAP, POP, and SMTP server are slow because e-mail isn't a file transfer protocol and e-mail servers throttle the connections so each gets some throughput, and reading e-mails is a slow process. Seems like em Client or another Windows e-mail client would be a viable candidate to run under WINE. I *think* I have 1903 as of 2 days ago, based only on changes that were coming that I now see. But I've not spotted anything that says 1903. Hit Alt+R. Run "winver". That'll tell you the build version. I have both MS and Apple accounts, but I log in to my systems with local accounts.. I just have no need to have my systems "tethered to the mother ship". G I've found even more Cortana settings along with apps that use the techniques that I mentioned before. I've tried to shut them all up, but still the lockscreen divulges my personal information. If I don't get 1903 in a couple months (to then kill Cortana but keep the Search), I'll just kill Cortana but it now requires a registry edit in the Home edition (which might be the equivalent of using the policy editor in the Pro edition since all policies are registry entries); see: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/dis...indows-search/ |

Cannot get rid of reminders in lockscreen

Windows 10 Home x64 build 1803 I do not want any notifications on my lockscreen. This violates my privacy by exposing my e-mails and calendar events to anyone that wanders by my computer to look at the lockscreen. Mail and Calendar are showing their notifications (reminders) on my lockscreen. I'm not talking about the popup or toaster notifications on the bottom right-side of the lockscreen although I also do NOT want those, either. I'm talking about the in-screen notifications (aka reminders) about my e-mails and scheduled events from the Mail and Calendar apps that appear in the lockscreen at the bottom left. I don't want toaster popups about my e-mails and calendar events. I don't want them as reminders within the lockscreen image itself, either. I have gone to "Settings - Personalization - Lock screen" and removed all apps that were listed under "Choose apps to show quick status". There is no Remove or Delete option. You click on the app in the list and scroll to the top of the app list to select "None". I have gone to "Settings - System - Notifications & actions" and deselected the "Show notifications on lock screen" option. I also have "Show reminders and incoming VOIP calls on the lock screen" disabled. I have logged off and back on, in case those options are effected only on login. Nope, I still get the reminders at the bottom left-side of the lockscreen under the clock and datestamp lines. I missed one setting which is what appears to show my personal info on the lock screen (which, to me, is a privacy breach since anyone can walk by to tap a key to show the lock screen): Settings app - Personalization - Lock screen Choose an app to show detailed status It was still set to the Calendar app, so my events were showing up on the lock screen. By clicking on the selection, a list pops up. I chose the None selection at the top of the list. Now my calendar events are no longer showing on the lock screen. It did not dawn upon me that "detailed status" equated to the quick access content on the lock screen. I've been in that settings page many times. Then I realized that, yep, these are the lock screen settings. So, what the hell, see what happens when I choose None for the app to show its detailed status. Poof, no more revealing my calendar events on the lock screen. |
