Small solid-blue rectangle at top right of screen.
I fired up my old computer with a new Win10 OS, and plugged in its
old screen with a HDMI cable instead of the multi-pin cables of old. I now get a persistant solid-blue rectangle at the top right of the monitor, and a recurring popup "connecting HDMI" in the monitor centre. How can this be fixed?

The reason I suggested the monitor is that some monitors tell you the input connection that is in use. But this usually disappears shortly after the image arrives. -- Regards, Eric Stevens

The article makes it seem that HDMI is a new thing on that date. Wikipedia says 2002 for the invention of HDMI, while the Benq is from 2006 or so. The HDMI supports HDCP, and I don't think that was there originally (there was a spate of "HDCP ready" video cards for a while, where the video card didn't actually do HDCP, and it had something to do with hardware keys for encryption or something). I'm not convinced that is anything more than a digital input. And notice that the article talks of "firmware", which implies maybe the OSD (firmware for internal processor), wasn't ripe when the product was first shipped. ******* Each video connector has an SDA + SCK interface, for sending EDID from the monitor to the PC. And that's supposed to help identify the monitor. The "real time" entry here, will show what is in the EDID.
