Blinking screens
I am currently on Win 1809. I have two monitors, and use the system tool to
change the color temp of the screens at night. Lately I have notices that when the system is doing the change, my screens will switch back and forth between the two color temps for a few seconds. I have a GTX 1050 graphics card, but that was installed several months ago, so I don't believe it has any relevance to this situation. I can't remember if the onset of this occurring corresponds to any updates from Microsoft or not. Any suggestions appreciated. |

I can't remember if the onset of this occurring corresponds to any updates from Microsoft or not. If you permit WinX to automatically update drivers, those could include the INF file(s) for your _unidentified_ monitor. You might reconsider configuring Windows Update to /NOT/ allow driver updates. These are like committing brain surgery on your hardware, and the latest aren't always the best, or even the correct ones proffered by the WU server. Go to your monitor maker's web site and see if they provide drivers or ..inf files to better define your monitor to the OS instead of using some generic model. The driver/INF bundled with Windows may be a generic driver instead of specifically for your particular make and model. Drivers downloaded via Windows Update may not be the best match on your hardware, especially if it is within a family of products, the driver covers the entire family or a particular version within, and you have a different version of a model within that product family. Driver updates are too dangerous to be left in the hands of Microsoft to change the state of your OS setup. Plus, if hardware is working then you don't need a new version, new versions remove old compatibility to add new compatibility, and new code fixes some old bugs but also introduces new bugs. If your unidentified monitor is too old for its maker to supply WinX-specific drivers, you're stuck using the generic ones bundled in Windows or those WU thinks are the best match. When I did a fresh install of WinX, Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) listed my Dell S2719DM monitor as some generic model. I got the driver from the Dell's site and installed it. Afterward, Device Manager identified my monitor by its S2719DM model number, plus the "Driver Provider" changed from Microsoft to Dell. To make sure your monitor is best matched on its feature set, get the driver from the monitor's maker. |

Apparently it will stop, if you go back to 1709 :-) https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c...color_profile/ At least they had a lot of fun testing it... Paul |

As Paul pointed out, might be a defect in the 1809 build. See: https://support.datacolor.com/index....oaded-randomly You could try enabling the "Use my settings for this device" option. Did you leave the Game Bar enabled in Windows 10? For me, I thought this was a stupid feature. I don't have an Xbox, never will have an Xbox, and would like to get rid of all the Xbox crap in Windows 10. https://www.drivethelife.com/windows...rs-update.html |
