Default Strange 'Sleep' behavior

My system is usually on 24/7, mainly because when I was doing video
transcoding using the built-in GPU it took hours to complete. Now that I
have my GTX 1050 to do that work, there is no need for 24/7, so I started
putting my system to sleep before bedtime. What is strange is that after
the system goes to sleep, it powers down. I know it is powered down because
I have one of those COB USB chips in one of my USB ports, and it is off.
When I press the power button, the system comes back almost immediately.

So, is it really powered down, or is the sytem just shutting down the USB
ports when it is sleeping?

Test it. Put it in sleep mode and then when it is in sleep mode, switch
off the power plug in the wall for about 1 minute. after 1 minute
switch it on and switch on your machine. See what happens and broadcast
it here on newsgroups - Windows 10, 7, XP, Linux and Apple Mac.

Tested as requested. Results indicate that system is switching off USB
power, but is not powering down per se. When I pulled the plug, then
powered up, the system actually went through its BIOS startup, then came
up like it does when waking from sleep. I wasn't aware that my
motherboard could switch USB power/ports like that. You are right, learn
something new every day.

And I may be a lonely old man, but I'm not miserable.

Shutting down or not the USB ports while sleeping is a BIOS feature. So
go to the BIOS and find out the options. Sometimes the options are
available in an application for Windows provided by the manufacturer.

Immediate wake up means sleeping. But your system may wake from
hibernation very fast if your disk is SSD.

If it is a laptop running on battery, you notice that sleep consumes
battery power, which is a way to find out.
