Default I'm 100% content with my custom backup system.

Paul,

I'm 100% content with my custom backup system.

I've no desire to back up "the MBR, the PBR, and so on";
nor do I desire a "1903 installer DVD".

I have a 128 gig, bootable USB drive
( mostly used to _ occasionally mirror my files+settings ).
Vital Files are backed up to my FTP server ( in Anaheim CA ).

P.S. Recently, Linus Tech Tips convinced me that
a higher refresh rate is worth the money.

So I'll be getting my new 150$ video card tomorrow,
so I can run 4K at 60 Hz, instead of 30 Hz
( i.e. HDMI 2.0B, instead of 1.4 ).

The test will be to see how jumpy the scrolling is,
in the Task Manager ( I don't play complex video games ).

If there's no improvement, then I'll return the card.
Hopefully, that won't happen.

I prefer my own special backup system.

I am going to keep this post because I will wait for your help message

You shouldn't worry about me.
I've been an unimaginably heavy Windows user+programmer ever since 1989.
I was programing MicroSoft DOS boxen, professionally, back in 1983.

Here's a screenshot of my YouTube comment history in Firefox v67,

Default Call me crazy+insane but...

Paul replied ( to me ):

Our main concern here, is you don't give people
ideas that they can't handle.

For example, you might get away with renaming the
kernel to "barney", but no one else will.

Call me crazy+insane but... I've no use for library folders;
"customizing" ( i.e. assigning a type to, e.g. video )
folders is a good idea.

Most of my executables are installed under "C:\__\EXEs",
as "C:\__" my primary folder.

My Firefox "profile", which often gets backed up, daily or more,
is kept in "C:\__\FF".

(Sloppy) Programs that don't let me set the location
of the settings folders fall under "C:\__\Sys\AppData" (%LocalAppData%)
-- because they MUST be children of my parent folder, "C:\__".

My source code is in "C:\__\_Source",
my videos are in "C:\__\mp4",
my music is in "C:\__\mp3",
my taskbar items are in "C:\__\TaskBar",
my temporary files are in "C:\__\Tmp",
my Startup items are in "C:\__\Startup",
my speech recognition data+settings are in "C:\__\Relf_Speak",
my .PNG+.JPG files are in "C:\__\Pics",
and I don't want other programs to be messing with them,
nor do I want them to even know about them, without my explicit consent.

And so on, and so on, with many other child folders.
I do not use the "desktop" folder; I (almost) never see it.

Not to fear, I won't spend any time worrying about you.

What's your beef with me ?
Why are you in Hangzhou ?
Why are you running an ancient computer ?

Z390, i7 8700, is that ancient enough to qualify ?

Sorry, I must've been hallucinating.

No beef, I just think you're a little unwrapped.

Who isn't ?

I think I'll keep it, especially after
running through the (scary) tests at "TestUFO.COM".

Task Manager's scrolling still looks like crap;
but there's probably nothing I can do about it; no big deal.
Better hardware doesn't always improve bad software.

In Zoom Player, MadVR now works, especially with LAV;
so 4k 60 fps videos Play/FastForward better than they did before.

My LAV Video Decoder has more optimization options now,
CPU usage is way down.

My video editor, OpenShot, probably works better now;
but I haven't tested it.

BackLight bleeding is much, much worse now, for some reason;
50% Contrast with 50% Brightness seems to work best now.
Brightness is way up.

Video game animation looks better.

The GTX 1650 Aero ITX card doesn't fit properly in my Micro ATX box;
but, after removing the backplate, it sorta fits.

I ran "ctTune" ( ClearType Tuner ) again.

Default Only a 240 hertz monitor can scroll without jitter.

Paul,

I don't have an IPS monitor; so a notionally "black" screen
looks cloudy in various places ( unrelated to the edge )
and the clouds shift, depending on the viewing angle.

When staring at bright text, the background looks truly black.

Task Manager is nothing special. It has not been
granted any super-powers. It runs under the management
of DWM like everything else.

Check out this vertical scrolling test:
http://TestUFO.COM/framerates-text

And I don't think the special effects settings
[ Run: SystemPropertiesPerformance ] has anything to help.
There's probably at least one "smooth scrolling"
special effect, but it doesn't do what you think it does.

I don't see a "Smooth Scrolling" option anywhere.

It would slow down the scroll, because it attempts to
do it a row of pixels at a time. And it is likely to
have a pretty miserable scroll throttle on it.

The scroll you see now, should do the scrolling with
multiple rows of pixels per move.

Correct, only a 240 hertz monitor can scroll without jitter.

Compounding the issue, the importance of better resolution
is demonstrated here ( 4k isn't enough for me ):
http://TestUFO.COM/aliasing-visibility

When editing text, I want a small screen, up close;
so I don't have to swivel my head to see the corners.

When watching videos, I want a large, distant screen;
so I can relax, all casual-like, with it out of my way.

Anywho... I'll put away the shrooms now.

Your monitor could have dynamic backlighting,

I turned it on, just now, using the OCD;
it's strange to watch the brightness vary,
as if by some invisible hand, all the time.

Videos are really bright compared to
my mostly-black screens elsewhere.

Also, Turning on Nvidia's "Full Dynamic Range" option
under "Color Settings" ( under "Change Resolution"
in Nvidia's "Control Panel" ) makes blacks blacker.

The dynamic option is typically used for video,
and makes movies look better.

Interesting; I think it does, I'll leave it on.

LED backlighting solutions should have a tremendous
adjustment range . Unlike CCFL, they have no limitations
on intensity. Using PWM (pulse width modulation), you
keep the current flow at a high level, and vary the
percentage of the time that current is applied. The PWM
clock could be running at 25KHz. Frequencies like that
are selected so the power circuits are not audible to humans.

Interesting.
Varying the voltage is harder than switching it on+off, apparently.
