Default Why doesn't my other computer have 1903?

My Win 10 Pro computer has 1903; the one with Win 10 Home has 1803.

Why?

Can I bring the Home computer to 1903? If so, how?

Because Microsoft servers must have seen this:

Can I bring the Home computer to 1903?

We hope so.

If so, how?

By downloading the full windows 10 iso and running the setup from it.
On Microsoft download page there is a button that says Update now so you
could click on it and see whether it does upgrade your machine. If it
doesn't and you can't download the full ISO then you can hire a Windows
technician who are advertising their services.

Good luck.

1903 is not offered as an automatic installation. When you run the WU
client, and if available to you, the 1903 upgrade will be shown after
checking for updates. I suspect that's because you will first need to
do the 1803/1809 updates before you can progress to the next feature
(1903) update. You have to do a manual check for updates, not just let
the automatic check find it for you. See:

https://www.windowscentral.com/windo...-checks-update
https://www.ghacks.net/2019/06/07/wi...anual-seekers/

You can also do a manual update to 1903. See:

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/man...19-update-now/

However, you may not be offered the 1903 update because of some
limitation in your setup where 1903 may not work.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...intel-drivers/
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...leye-software/

I don't know if Microsoft has published a document listing all their
compatibility holds on 1903 other than the last article to which I
linked describing problems with 1903 and mentioning a compatibility hold
due to some of them if they apply to your setup.

Also, there is little in the 1903 upgrade that may interest you, if
anything. The only feature in 1903 that I was interested in was the
sandbox (which is really a virtual machine with a minimal Win10 setup)
but that's not normally available to Home edition users, like me;
however, I've since found online articles that describe how to get the
sandbox installed into the Home edition.

Yet with all the bugs in their releases (which they present as feature
updates trying to pretend Win10 isn't changing versions), I'll wait
until the next feature update or several more months to see what the
fallout is for 1903. There are already known compatibility issues with
1903. See:

0) Do a backup of C: and friends first.

While the installer has improved a lot, a hard
drive failure can wreak havoc in the middle of
an install. The installer can even handle a boot
failure on the first attempt at the final desktop
(it wasn't always capable of that!).

Your backup ensures all the things they didn't
think about, are covered.

1) Download the ISO.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

Use your Win10 machine, and the tool given to you should
be MediaCreationTool1903.exe . Run the tool, answer the
prompts. You should get something like "Windows.iso" .
I usually change the name a bit, for tagging purposes.

2) Right click the ISO and select "Mount" from the top menu item.

3) Run "Setup.exe" on the virtual optical drive letter
created when you selected "Mount" in (2).

This will do a Repair/Upgrade of 1803 to 1903.

4) You have 10 days to revert, if dissatisfied with
how it works.

On the tenth day, Windows.old will be deleted automatically.

You can use cleanmgr.exe to remove Windows.old before
the ten days are up. This will release 20GB of space
for you to use.

When I installed 1903, I had one failure caused by some
"bad math" by the installer. It didn't leave enough room for
itself for a pagefile. Once I increased the overall size of
C: to at least 85GB, the install then sailed through. Giving
it 32GB total space, is too tight for 1903, but some of the
other installers could have handled that. (It will compress
the **** out of the materials, which takes time, and it
is possible the math it did, the compression did not
meet the objectives.) The space math is off a tiny bit on
this one. The older installers leave 3GB of slack, that's
how "close of a shave" the old ones did. I was pleasantly
surprised how the old installers stick-handled, as they
adjusted things pretty well depending on how rough
a ride you gave them (shorted them on space). They can
adjust hiberfil and pagefile size, for example.

There may be more information available to you as to why your Home
computer hasn't updated. Look at [Settings Update & Security Windows
Update]. There may be a reference number for more information that you
can do a search on.

On one of our computers (running 1809), there is a message to the effect
that 'your computer is not quite ready for the update' to 1903, though
it doesn't say why that is.

Some have suggested that the 1809 update may need to precede the 1903
update, however none of our computers running 1803 had to go through
that step as an independent action. If it did that automatically, it did
so while I was asleep, since I ran the update overnight. ;-)

Also, check permissions.

Generally speaking, I am not an advocate of manually updating Win10.
There is a lot to know to avoid problems with regard to component and
driver compatibility, and far to little information about those things
to make informed decisions.

My computer "wasn't quite ready" when I plugged in a USB stick
and tried to do the install that way. The 1903 being blocked, if
any USB flash are plugged in, because of "some possibility the
drive letters could be confused" or something.

I used a DVD in that case, and it "was ready" then. As then
there were no USB sticks plugged into the machine at all.

I thought that blocker was only for random data sticks
being left in the computer. But my installer stick
got the blame in that case, as the usage of a DVD
worked. Having to read about these on web sites,
is a pretty slow way to figure out what blockers exist.

https://www.techrepublic.com/article...es-gpu-vanish/

If they would release a second version of the media,
that blocker would likely be removed at that point.
The media is currently marked with a "V1" modifier,
as evidence it's still the first version.

(What you get, using the direct download method.
For example, using the Heidoc URL generator, you would get these.
These are 11 OS version discs, and there is a trick [oscdimg]
for converting these to smaller 1 OS version discs.)

Win10_1903_V1_English_x64.iso 4,939,528,192 bytes
Win10_1903_V1_English_x32.iso 3,493,140,480 bytes
