Default Blue screen

Hello All
I am runing Windows XP on my HP Laptop.

On start up i get the blue screen of death. The screen appears only for a
split second and i canot read what it said.

Is it posssible to freeze the message so i can write down the error code ?

Any ideas would be gratefuly recieved.

Thank you

Windows XP ____ Edition with Service Pack _, __-bit?

You should be getting the boot menu (a text menu where you can select what
to do because the last boot failed) - can you boot into Safe Mode?
