Default Remote Access Connection & Yahoo

When I got my laptop in December I loaded Yahoo Internet
on to my system (Windows XP). First I had connection
problems where as when I disconnected the laptop acted as
if I was still connected to the internet. When I tried to
de-install Yahoo it kept looking for some log file which
was not on my computer. When I tried to re-stall Yahoo
from the CD it started telling me that I needed to
install "Remote Access Service" I then discovered that the
Remote Access Connection Manager and the Remote Access
Auto Connection Manager are disabled and I cannot enable
them from the Services and Applications area in my
computer. I keep getting an error 711 and 5. I followed
the direction from the article which corresponds to the
711 error on this website but I still cannot enable those
two components on my computer. Any suggestions are greatly
appreciated.
