Default Win XP Pro cannot see any workgroup PCs.

Under My Network Places
Entire Network
MS Windows Network
MyWorkgroup

Will not expand at all to show other PCs in that same Workgroup.

However, Net Folders under My Network Places show several other PCs and
I can click on each and see the folders and files shared.

I have a laptop I want to access but seems to have no way to get to it.

The laptop where I cannot see the workgroup is connected by WiFi and the
those that I can see are on Cat5. The new laptop I want to connect to
is also on Cat5.

What is keeping me isolated ?

Make sure any firewall doesn't block Windows Network traffic.

Also, Windows XP and older computers may not be able to see Windows Vista+
due to more secure Windows Network protocol which isn't compatible with
earlier protocol.

Ohleeohlaititee:

Does the laptop you are trying to connect to have any drives or folders marked
as a SHARED folder or drive?

It could also be a setting on your Router's WiFi or wired connections to allow
only some MAC addresses. Are you sure the WiFi works at all on both the network
and the laptop?

As long as I have my sharing options set right I can see my W/7
machines from XP just fine. There was some kind of hiccup getting from
W/7 to W/98 but I could do it. I think it was only from the 7 to the
98 but that may have been the other way around. It has been a while
since the 98 machine was running but I know I was able to swap files
going at least one way.
