Default Windows FTP - how to prevent being stuck?

Hello

If my FTP server is unavailable, a script trying to connect to it ends up
waiting forever.

If you run this command:

ftp 0.0.0.1

...it will result in the same situation. Since this server is unavailable,
the FTP program hangs forever.

It should try for a moment, and then give up.
Is there a way to prevent this hangup somehow?
