Notifications - what are they for?

What's interesting is that the sound is louder than any other sound I have, or at least it's at or near maximum even when the volume is set lower. I'd be willing to forego this sound, I thing, but it's only once a day. I haven't looked in a while and I'm not near a win10 machine, but you used to be able to open the sound mixer and find sliders for all kinds of items, like system sounds (errors), thunderbird, firefox, vlc etc. Some of them only show if running but... You could then individually set each for it's own level, making notifications or system sounds lower than other items. You'd have to play. Of course this is an IIRC. |

The key question is what we "lose" when we turn off this stuff. I just turned it _all_ off, but when I plugged in an iPad, I heard the bong, but I didn't get any popup saying it was mounted. If that's a notificatio, I do get a small blue borderless window that slides into view int he bottom right, and a loud sound, when I plug in phone. Not really easy when the sound only runs for a second. |

Yes, I think that's what they were trying to make it sound like. |

Not really easy when the sound only runs for a second. Good point. And I'm asleep when I plug the phone in, at least it's loud enough to wake me up. But I'll still look. |

If you ignored the Notification, you might be crashing about two minutes later. Resource messages like that are OK. The Windows Defender related stuff, not so much. Nobody cares how many times WD "shined my shoes" today. I've now managed to get a message "I will field your notifications while your gaming". WTF does that mean? Hide them? Deal with them automatically somehow? Is this a game of cricket? I'm unable to interpret that sentence. |
