Default Windows XP slow to crawl after installing update

Thank You also. You saved me a lot of time uninstalling
all of the updates till I got the right one. Microsoft
was less than useless about the problem. I guess it is a
secret till someone outside Microsoft figures it out and
makes it public.

The following is a note I wrote to Computerworld.com
after I had problems with my computer. The problem lies
with some computers reacting to Hotfix Q811493. The
solution is to dump it. Don't waste your time with
customer support as I did!

Thank you, Thank you, Thankyou!!!

I read your article, and although I had similar problems
I figured I had better err on the cautious side since I
had more than 10 seconds of delay and often my machine
froze. I spent three hours on the phone with a very
helpfull Microsoft Help Desk representative. After that,
when it was time for lunch, he said that his manager

said
it must be a hardware problem. I should take my computer
in to have the hardware checked out. If, after the
hardware checked out OK, then they would look at the
problem again. This seemed just too convenient for me,
so contrary to the advice of Microsoft, and per your
advice, I deleted the Microsoft patch. Voila! My machine
works again! Oh how life is good! So Microsoft still has
no open cases of this problem! That's only because they
put their own blinders on! Thanks again for letting me
know where the true poblem was lying.

Note from Computerworld:

LATEST WINDOWS XP PATCH CAN SLOW DOWN PCS
Users say that Windows XP can take up to 10 seconds to
start an application after a patch Microsoft released
last week is installed.
