Anybody else have trouble getting taskbar icons to change?
Sometimes trying to change a taskbar icon works. Sometimes it
doesn't. Some system action can cause the icon to change, I guess. Currently, trying to change the Magnifier icon on the taskbar. No go after lots of attempts including the restart. Thanks for any intelligent suggestions. |

You are, I would guess, dealing with a shortcut icon on the quick launch toolbar. Usually, those shortcuts that you can't change have the rightclick/Properties/Shortcut tab/Change Icon button grayed out. There have been no buttons grayed out. Sometimes it just fails to work. Other times it works. Sometimes it waits for some action before the icon changes. Things always have a cause, at least here on my computer. To change the icon for the magnifier - go to the magnifier exe file, right click, Send to, Desktop (create shortcut) - change the icon, check to ensure it works. Drag the new icon onto the toolbar, delete the old icon and the just created icon on the desktop. That worked this time (and hopefully every time) with the trivial exception that the old magnifier icon must first be unpinned from the taskbar. You can assume it always works here unless I follow-up. |
