Default Somethings on my desktop and I can't get it off!!!

I don't know how this happened, but on the left hand side
of my desktop is a folder pane?... not sure that is what
it's called. It has folder tasks, other places and details
on it, just like when you open a folder. I would like it
off of there, but can't figure out how to do it. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Visit my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP Fixes section.
Follow the link for Remove Common Tasks from Desktop. This small VB Script
utility will modify the System Registry to remove Common Tasks from your
Desktop.

This is completely unnecessary, in this situation.
