Default noisy video capture

I am trying to capture video from a Panasonic PV-DV402
camera through firewire to a Compaq Evo laptop (N1000v).
I have tried three different programs--Windows Movie
Maker, Ulead Video Studio, and Panasonic Movie
Messenger. With every program, both the audio and video
are very noisy, even just during playback onto the
computer.

I know I am not using top of the line hardware or
software, but it is public school equipment, so I have to
use what I'm given.

Does anyone have any suggestions for solving this problem
with what I have to work with?
