Default Camera not detected

I am having the same problem! The card shows up fine but will not detect my
Sony TVR340. I saw this problem in the knowledgebase
hehttp://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;329256

is this fix free?, Are the updated drivers in SP1? SP1 didn't fix my problem.

I am unable to connect my Canon MV300i camera to my PC through the

firewire
port. I have seen lots of discussion and lots of people with the same
problem and I was hoping I might get an answer here. I have tried many
different combinations of firewire ports/cards (on the motherboard and on
separate PCI cards) with no joy. I have tried different PC's and I cannot
get it to work. The ports are always recognised by the O/S and are enabled
(according to device mangler), yet the application (Adobe Premier V6.0 and
Windows Movie Maker V2.0) do not see anything. I have tried many different
suggestions from many different forums but nothing has worked. my
frustration is that all was well with the same camera, cable, ports and
application on my old Win98SE machine...(BTW The camera still works when I
connect it to a Win98SE machine). I suspect a bug of some sort in the XP
O/S. I have tried both Home and Pro - same problem.
Ian.

I had the same exact problem. I finally called Microsoft
for $35 and got it fixed. I had to install Windows Media
player version 9. I only had version 8 on my machine.
Now it works fine! My camera is a Sony TVR 340 or 350.

Good luck to you.

Kent,
thanks for the info.
I have Windows Media Player V9.0 installed, but it still does not work!!!
I also have every patch/update/SR etc known to man, but it still DOESN'T
WORK!!!
I have also tried a rebuild from scratch testing the camera at every step
along the way to see if I could identify what is causing the problem. The
camera didn't work after a basic, raw with nothing added, WinXP install!
AAHHHHH.....
Linux is so much easier!!!!.
