Hmm, having read this email I went to this site:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowsxp/pro/ and the

latest
sp is 1 ????

I have the same problem with my DCR-PC120E, I have a
laptop with an onboard IEEE 1394 card , the memory stick
is recognized ok, but not the analogue output. I have

set
the camcorder to VCR and via the menu I have A/V - DV
out but when I try to use Windows Movie maker (CApture
from vdeo device) I always get the error message "A

video
capture device was not detected)???

How are you connecting the camera? 1394 card or USB. XP
needs SP2 to have updated USB2 drivers. In my

experience
XP recognises anything properly connected to typical

1394
cards. Appropriate drivers for such cards are usually
updated automatically via the Windows update site. Must
also switch camcorder to VCR mode for it to be

recognised.
Hope this helps.

Richard.

I've been having that same problem, assuming you're
talking about the sony DCR-TRV11 digital video camera
recorder, I can not get my computer to recognise it as
even EXISTING.
