Default SP2 update

I have 3 computers : 2 Dell and 1 Micron
Installed SP2 on the old Dell and Micron without any problems.

Installed SP2 on my New Dell Dimension 8300 purchased in March 2004 and SP2
took it to its knees.

I reformatted the new Dell reloaded WinXP SP1 which came with the computer
and the drivers and only essential items - got the network connections
working again as it is networked - reinstalled XP2 and all went well.
I then loaded my desired software and checked things out after each install
to be sure all was well...I now have all software loaded and all is well. (I
made a list of software to be installed and paid attention to the order it
was loaded)

The only difference in these computers other than age is the two older
computers are Fat32 and the new Dell is NTFS. I wonder if that could have
had anyting to do with the mess. Maybe it is just a Dell.

I looked this morning to see if there were any updates, Saw that it said to
do Sp2, Also Have Dell Dimenion computer. They said that on there support to
upgrade Bios also, Called Dell for Question s and then was told, DO Not
Upgrade to SP2. That it is crashing the hard drives and that you could not
use system restore to reocover, I have a business on mine and cannot afford
for this to happen, Is Anyone aware of this problem? I am running Norton
Firewall and Virus. Had not had any problems, But I always want to have the
best security I can Have. What can be done at this point? Do OR Don't.

I would backup everything, apply the bios update, be sure all drivers are
updated and uninstall Norton Security before I installed SP2 on a Dell with
business information. You will have to disable the Microsoft Firewall and
Automatic Updates and reinstall Norton Security after installing SP2. I
have a Dell Dimension 8300 purchased in March of this year and SP2 took it to
its knees. I posted earlier how I got it back up.
