Default Installing HP OfficeJet 4215 on Windows XP

I have been unable to install this hardware...getting the "cannot find
the necessary software message". We have spent hours on the phone
with HP support. Problems seems to occur even if we choose to install
without connecting all-in-one printer (as allowed by installation
program). Therefore seems to be a problem between HP Install software
and Windows Installer. Can anybody out there throw any light on this
situation? Thank you!

What did HP say about "cannot find the necessary software message"?

Did the software install correctly, according to the installation package?

Then was the hardware not be detected by Windows?

Did HP ask you to update the USB drivers?

There is a Microsoft fix called MSI Installer, it may help.

Thanks for your response. Since I posted the question I did some more
digging and found some log files in the Windows directory
(KBnnnnnn.log). Those seemed to indicate that the install was unable
to find halaacpi.dll and at the top of the log file were a number of
unsuccessful searches for .cab files in c:windows\system32.

I knew sp1.cab should be on the system, but it is in c:\windows\driver
cache\i386, so I copied it to c:\windows\system32.

I then uninstalled all that had been installed and started again and
it went just like the instructions said, with a small problem at the
end which I'm sure HP will help me solve quickly.

I must say that, although HP did not find the problem or solution,
they did spend a lot of time with me, trying to solve it.

Thanks again....and any comments on my solution are welcome.

I will look at MSI Installer for future reference.
