The product is a USB enclosure with a regular hard drive inside. This review tells you all you need to know. http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/346...hdd/index.html The drive mechanism is a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M7E HM641JI 640GB 5400 RPM drive. The hard drive itself is worth $80. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152204 This is a benchmark for the drive mechanism. Measured transfer rate is 98.5 MB/sec near the beginning of the disk, and 44.4 MB/sec near the end. In other words, the sustained transfer rate cannot be higher than 98.5MB/sec. For random file transfers, the 5400 RPM rotational speed, will significantly slow down file transfer (seek time). http://dyski.cdrinfo.pl/benchmark/hd...MIQ3XGRLh1.png If there was a SATA SSD inside the enclosure, then... it would be ultra fast.
