Most of it's in no-penalty CDs now, earning 2.25%, which I can take out at any
time. Some is in CDs that mature next April, earning 2.90%, and the rest is in
a brokerage account, where most is parked in a settlement fund earning ~2%.

Sounds safe, if not profitable.

I've very little confidence in the solvency of the FDIC,

It's the safest way to go, I think.

I don't want to risk storing a lot of money in any form myself

Right, because Governments subsidize devil-may-care deadbeats/junkies
and penalize penny-pinching capitalists, creating bubbles.

I want to put most of it in a small farm, which is probably
the safest store of wealth for what you don't need to live on.

Long-Term: People are moving to the city, leaving the farm.

I suggest you do the same, stay in the city.

If real estate prices take a dump as expected, I'll
probably rent out the house I'm living in and enjoy the passive income.
I've been a landlord before, and I hate dealing with renters.

Long-Term: People are living alone now, ditching friends+family.

I suggest you do the same, no renters.

no one listens to you though

Right now, I'm all about safe. Negative interest rates will be here soon, and
then I change my game plan.

I've very little confidence in the solvency of the FDIC,

So far, but that could change, so I try to stay informed as to what's really
going on. You sure won't hear it from the Government or MSM, and I think most
of the so-called "experts" are usually wrong. I could say gold is going to the
moon, and I'd be right... it's the WHEN part that's usually wrong. I sort
through all the crap and try to make sense out of it.

If they can get to it, they can take it. You could wake up one day and find
your account has been frozen.

**** no! The last place you want to be when SHTF, is in a city. Small farms
are no longer profitable because of corporate agribusiness, so small farmers
may be leaving, but survivalists and homesteaders are moving to small farms to
sustain themselves, not to make a business out of it.

That's what I did, because most people are assholes if you have to live with
them every day. I'm happier living alone than I ever was living with others.

I suggest you do the same, no renters.

If real estate prices plummet, that's the time to buy more if you have the
liquidity, but it's not the time to sell what you already have. The 2008 real
estate crash was fully recovered in about 8 years. This one might be
different, but I'm not selling at the bottom.

i'm staying where i am i've even been discussing ,
getting buried at the site

According to you, Greg has done the right thing then.
According to me, he's exiled himself; it's self-imprisonment.

No, it's just the opposite. It's freedom. Your thinking is
warped. The liberals/socialists have turned you into a
willing dupe/drone and they have you JUST where they
want you.

Let's say Seattle has an outbreak of bubonic plague
in the homeless population. What do you think is
going to happen. Yes, Quarantine. The authorities
will isolate the entire city. Nobody gets in and out
that they don't want to get in and out. Schlubs like
you will be expendable. If you catch the plague -
too bad. They don't care if half the population dies.

So, YOU are the prison by your own hand.

In the city, you can rent a micro-apartment and order Uber eats.

That's in good times but when anarchy sets in you
will be dead meat.

I could say gold is going to the moon, and I'd be right;
-- it's the WHEN part that's usually wrong.

Since the end of 2015, the Yen has been tracking gold.
as will the dollar, eventually, if all all goes right;
complete with negative interest rates.

I sort through all the crap and try to make sense out of it.

We've a limited number of crappy choices.
You can't blame the guy who "chooses" to jump out the window
when the house is on fire.

Likewise, governments are forced to make crappy "choices";
e.g. enabling drugs and thieving junkies.

Governments subsidize devil-may-care deadbeats/junkies
and penalize penny-pinching capitalists, creating bubbles.

If they can get to it, they can take it.
You could wake up one day and find your account has been frozen.

Hence: I only invest in myself; I don't trust anyone.

Long-Term: People are living alone now, ditching friends+family.

I'm happier living alone than I ever was living with others.

Amen. Trying to change others is a losing game; it'll drive you mad.

**** the others. If they can't swim then let them drown,
I say. Me, myself and I is how to survive any coming
apocalypse. Every single relationship I've ever had,
male or female - but especially female, has been
little more than a ball and chain on my leg.

An asteroid or a GammaRay burst would be more likely.

Also, I'm a fat 60-year-old smoker;
I probably don't have many years left.

Why are you a fat smoker? No self-discipline?

No pride? No desire for a long, happy and
healthy life? No self-esteem?

You are a liberal. Because all the above are
liberal traits and liberals are, whether they
realize it or not, dependent and suicidal.

That's the irony of kensi and Nads. They
blubber mouth about all the deadly effects
of climate change but, on the other hand,
they act and are suicidal.

Total illogic is just what I hate the most
about humans who seem proud of themselves
because of their illogic and who actually
believe with all their feelings that everybody
else should be proudly illogical and happy
to be ruled by some *authority* who is
better endowed.

This is pure insanity and partially due to
their living in cities surrounded by likewise
defective thinkers.

Tobacco addicts (nicotine) are some of the most
pathetic humans that ever evolved.

How pathetic is it to have your entire life revolve
around a drug you inhale along with carcinogenic
smoke.

And, now the nicotine addicts have found something
even more stupid - vaping which results in lung
infections because the fluid they turn into vapor
and inhale are not sterile. At least cigarette
smoke is sterilized by the heat of the ember.

What kind of an idiot inhales who knows what
kind of liquid by turning it into vapor and inhaling
it just to satisfy their nicotine addiction.

IMO, that's less than human because it relegates
the brain to last place. Total hedonism and this
is a totally defective human being.

They are already dying from various lung infections.

Good riddance to them, I say. We don't need their
defective genes in the human genome anyway.
