Default Printer has problems with thicker paper

I tried to print to some thicker paper, but it would not print.

The printer is a Brother HL-2240

It works fine with standard paper.

A Canon MG 2220 worked fine with the thicker paper.

Any ideas as to the problem ?

When you cracked open the manual for the
Brother HL-2240, what kind of paper did it
recommend for usage in the printer ?

On the page with the title at the top

"Type and size of paper"

around PDF page 8

http://download.brother.com/welcome/...aeng_usr_c.pdf

it's pretty obvious the "Manual" feed method
is required for the largest range of paper
types. Using the tray is for limited
paper types (28lb paper or less). In
their table, Thick Paper is 43lb rating.

Paul,

My printer has a tray, but no manual feed.

Unless is it is hidden. :-)

It's probably the printer.

You need a Brother PPL-650.

It's a printer plane and it will remove some of the extra thickness from
the paper and will make sure it's no thicker than will work in Brother
printers.

Sorry. I meant to say Paper Plane.

Yes. The paper is too thick.

Media Weights (bond):
Standard paper tray - 16 to 28 lbs.
Manual feed slot - 16 to 43 lbs.

An alternate, cheaper solution would be to simply sand the paper down
until it fit better.

Locate the correct manual and have a look.

Sure if you only have a few sheets.

But the Brother PPL-650 Paper Plane will do 15 sheets a minutes. or 3
reams of paper in 40 minutes.

If you buy the Brother PR-PPL-650A Printer-Planer Attachment you can
feed the paper straight from the planer output into the printer input
tray. It's worth the extra $75.

I'll cancel your order for the PR-PPL-650A.

And I'll try to cancel the restocking fee.

Is there anything else I can help you with?
