For some unknown reason, the Windows magnifer, magnify.exe, keeps
opening up when I log onto Windows7. I don't see it on the list of
startup programs in config.sys so I am quite mystified as to what is
causing this annoyance. Can anybody suggest how I can prevent it from
opening up automatically? TIA.

You can turn it off in the Ease of Access Center -

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center
