Default Multimedia Audio Controller

I have a AMD Athlon(tm)XP 2500+ 1.85GHz, 5412MB of Ram. Installed Windows XP
Home and now I have no sound. System Other Devices shows error on multimedia
Audio controller. Can anyone please advise how to solve this problem.
