Default Network not working correctly

I have a wireless network that is mine and my daughters
PC's connected via DLink wireless cards with my daughters
PC connected to a broadband modem. All was well with both
machines until I updated Norton had problems and
uninstalled totally utilising a registry clean up file
from Norton. Now although the DLink utility says the
cards are talking happily I cannot see any network and
cannot get on the internet. I've tried everything I can
think of including upgrading XP deleting all network cards
from device manager then allowing XP to reinstall. The XP
machine seems to want to 'bridge' connections which I
don't understand and this is complicating things. I've
made sure that the network name is the same on both PC's
and that there is a shared file on both to look at. Can
anyone help?
