You could always replace all other media players on the system and get free
DVD playback by finding some freeware called Media Player Classic; It give
you al the functionality of the current Media Player, minus the overly pretty
graphics. And, it plays DVDs, and with the right codec pack - I reccomend the
K-Lite pack - You can play just about any other media format.

Use this utility to check if your decoder is compatible with MP10..
You should be able to get the decoder free from your video cards OEM, I got
mine from ATI for my Radeon 9600XT..

I personally would try Cyberlink's Power DVD perfect playback you could
buy it or go to a Bit Torrent site and download it but if you do
download the power dvd from a bit torrent site don't update it or
register it

Default DVD drive + Windows XP + Media Player = no go?!?

I have the same problem with my DVD not playing on my Windows XP SP2
computer. I have a Compaq Presario 7110US! Since going to SP2 I cannot play
DVD at all, when I insert the DVD it tries to load but it does not open up
so, I try to open it up by going to my computer and clicking on my DVD Drive
and error message says "please insert a disc into Drive E but, the disc is
already in the Drive. I also, have WinDVD that was installed on my Computer
when I bought my Computer so, why can't I play any DVD's. Before upgrading to
WinXP the DVD was working. Is it possible that the WinDVD will not work with
WinXP SP2. Thanks.

Which version of WinDVD do you have? Have you looked for updates at its
website at www.intervideo.com?

WinDVD is not a program that is written by Microsoft, it is one that is
purchased separately. If your PC manufacturer chose to include in on your
PC then you will have received a copy on CD. You may need to reinstall it.
Look in your PC manual for instructions on how to restore individual
programs.

Cari,

I have just installed Active X, and WinDVD Update from the HP website. HP
emailed the information and I installed those per their directions. After
installing I restarted my computer then I tried to play the movie that I have
and the same message appears as before. I have the latest Active X and WinDVD
is 5.0 Thanks.

Correct.
Get a DVD Decoder.

WHY won't it play it? Surely it should be built into windows media player? I don't have to get an mp3 decoder for it to play mp3s.

So, where do I get one and is it free? Google only produces lots of things to be paid for.

A Pakistani arrives in London City all excited. He stops the first person he meets. "Good day, Mr. British, thank you to accept me in Your nice country", but the person interrupts and says: "I am not British, I'm Chinese."
The Pakistani continues on his way and meets another passer-by. "Thank you Mr. British for to let my family and me stay here... " Again, he's interrupted before finishing his sentence. "I no be British, I be Turk!"
He goes a little farther and meets another person and greets him "thank you for letting me come to your beautiful country." ... "I'm not British, I'm Kosavon."
"But," answers the Pakistani distressed, "where are the British??"
The Kosavon looks at his watch and says ..... "Probably at work."

In May?!!! It's November now. If the OP hasn't come back by now, he
isn't coming back.

Research the question by using Google Groups Advanced Search, Google Web
search, or make a new post here with all pertinent details per this

One day a farmer caught a traveling salesman making love to his youngest daughter.
Yelling "You son of a bitch!" he shot the amorous salesman in the groin with a .12-gauge shotgun.
The screaming salesman quickly took off for town to find a doctor.
He found one, but the physician took one look at the man's perforated pecker and told him that nothing could be done for him.
"Oh, please do something," begged the salesman. "I'm a rich man and can pay you anything."
"Sorry, son," said the doctor. "There's nothing I can do.
However, there's a man across the street who might be able to help."
"Oh? Is he a specialist?" asked the salesman.
"No," said the doctor, "he's a piccolo player. He'll teach you how to hold it without ****ing in your face."
