Default large avi problem

Using windows XP I'm having problems downloading larger avi video files from
my camera (canon A710). Smaller files are no problem but I cannot download
files of over about 200MB. I get a message that the I/O is disconnected, or
an empty file (0kb) is downloaded. I use USB, have tried both with camera
software and without (drag and drop), also no luck with a card reader.

Not a lot of help to you because all my daily PCs use Vistaq, but I have
several Canon cameras, and use SDHC cards, I've got card readers (all cards
are 8gb) and transferring files by reader is not a problem at all, I often
have movie files of up to 2gb to edit - and that's on a notebook! The card
reader is built into the notebook, the USB reader on the desktop is a (very
recent for the HC support) Sandisk 12 in 1 unit. Both are using NTFS
formatted hard drives.

I don't know if I can help you but I do have a few
questions...

Just wondering...what is the capacity of your memory
card and is your hard drive formatted NTFS?

Also...if you right click your My Computer icon and
from the menu...choose...Properties / General tab...
is Service Pack 3 listed under the System heading?

I have a couple of thoughts but no solutions.

Two thoughts...could you try a different memory
card? Could you try a different USB port?

One more thought...if you have several USB
accessories attached...disconnect all but the
card reader and try to download the file.

I already have SP 3.
The article also says:
You can connect the camera by using USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) instead of
PTP
How would I do this?

(in the meantime I got the file onto my pc via CD rom... so problem kinda
solved!
